Event: National Writing Day 26 June 2019

Image: National Writing Day banner“National Writing Day is an annual celebration of writing designed to inspire people across the UK to get writing. Our message is simple: everyone has a story to tell and sharing it can be a source of pleasure and power.”

National Writing Day 26th June 2019 sees this year’s event which aims to inspire creative writing on a grand scale. Young people find encouragement to write creatively if they see adults around them doing so. This annual event welcomes participation from any individual or group, regardless of age, gender, and cultural or economic backgrounds. It aims to promote all forms of writing in a programme of public, educational and online activities .

National Writing Day is led by national literacy charity First Story, supported by fifty-five Official Partners and numerous other associate organisations. It is made possible with support from Arts Council England and Old Possums Practical Trust.

Join in by writing your own original piece on the day using some of their creative resources, attending an event hosted by a partner or sharing your own work on social media using #nationalwritingday.

Schools and youth groups can download teaching resources for Early Years to Key Stage 5 as well as the Write Away! activity.

Numerous events across the UK aim to get us all writing. Anyone can host a writing event in their community. Hold a mass writing activity in the town square, a poetry slam, or a free writing workshop. Try a pop-up poetry stall or anything that encourages people to write. Take a look at events already planned then register your event on the National Writing Day website.
